“I went down...to check on our church school to see if they were alright, and as I was doing so I saw flood waters coming up the lane to meet me in the dark. It was the strangest feeling, like the tide coming in.”
“One of the biggest issues is morale, because flooding comes and goes within the space of 24 hours and it takes you a year and a half to get back into your house on average.
We were told at the time that that was a one in 25 year occurrence and it happened again within 9 months so it could well happen again soon. I’m sure it won’t be long before [the defense] is tested thoroughly”
